Luther "Uncle Luke" Campbell is celebrating nearly two decades in the entertainment industry with the release of My Life & Freaky Times, an audio book (preceding his forth coming biography) accompanied by a soundtrack, detailing Luke's freakiest exploits.
A hodge podge of Miami bass, hip-hop and reggaeton, Luke's compilation album/soundtrack appeals to a wide range of freaky hip-hop tastes with tracks from artists like Trick Daddy, Pitbull, Petey Pablo, Jacki-O, Lil' Cease and Lil' Kim -- think Junior Mafia and Biggie, pre-humus ("Crush on You," "Drugs," "Queen Bitch"). It sounds like an odd mix, but it's a worthy listen. It's not the greatest compilation, but there are some tracks worth uploading to the iPod if you don't already have the album it originally came from.
More exciting than the music, however, are the audio vignettes of Luke detailing how Gloria Velez really became the #1 video vixen, as well as the naughty exploits of celebrities Michael Jordan, Mike Tyson, Robert DeNiro, Sisqo, Muhammad Ali and others, who have attended his notorious "Freakfest," or have had experience with "Luke Girls." There are even exclusive Uncle Luke interviews with the Notorious B.I.G. and Tupac from his "Luke's Freak Show" interviews.
Oddly enough, this is one that should be bought more for the gossip factor than for the music. Extremely controversial, yet undeniably popular, Uncle Luke is at it again. My Life & Freaky Times is definitely an interesting work of Lukedom that even Luke-haters will want to get their hands on. If you have to talk about something, why not Uncle Luke, the raunchy man people love, or love to hate.
