As most know by know, William Balfour (the estranged brother-in-law of Jennifer Hudson) has been arrested and charged with the murders of the singer's mother, brother, and 7-year-old nephew Julian.
However, media experts feel the evidence in the case against 27-year-old Balfour has holes in it.
According to the Chicago Sun-Times, authorities have recovered a murder weapon, but forensic tests do not link the gun to Balfour.
In fact, police do not have a smoking gun against the alleged culprit.
Police do have testimony from a girlfriend who allegedly told police Balfour confessed to the murders and said she saw him with a gun similar to a .45-caliber Sig Sauer handgun, but she has a misdemeanor drug case on her record that experts believe could undermine her credibility.
There was also no physical evidence at the bloody crime scene that could be linked directly to Balfour, as well.
"The police have to do absolutely everything possible to make sure they are not setting up the wrong guy," Leonard L. Cavise, an expert on criminal law, told the paper. "This is the ultimate heater case. Police have got to make themselves an arrest because there is so much public pressure on this case."
Back in November, the bodies of Hudson's mother Darnell Hudson Donerson, and older brother Jason were discovered inside the Hudson home on Chicago's South Side, and it was later revealed that 7-year-old Julian was missing. Days later, police found Julian's body in an SUV. All three victims died from multiple gunshot wounds.
Balfour was arrested Monday (December 1) and charged with the deaths of all three victims. He was denied bail on Wednesday (December 3), and held on three counts of first-degree murder.
He is expected to have committed the crimes out of jealousy.
