Police arrested the estranged brother-in-law of Jennifer Hudson on Monday (December 1), a month after the shooting deaths of the singer's mother and 7-year-old nephew Julian.
According to the Associated Press, 27-year-old William Balfour -- who has been in custody since the October 24 slayings on a parole violation -- was transferred to Chicago police custody Monday (December 1), after being served with an arrest warrant for the Hudson murders.
Until Monday, Balfour was only considered a "person of interest" in the murder investigation, and had not been formally charged.
His attorney, Joshua Kutnick, says his client says he's innocent of the crimes, and further says evidence against him is "very weak."
"He vehemently denies that he is guilty in this case," Kutnick told reporters outside police headquarters, reports the AP. "Any evidence pointing to Mr. Balfour is not even thin. It is very, very weak."
MTV reports that during a closed hearing last month, investigators presented evidence that Balfour had a gun matching the weapon used in the murders.
Balfour's mother still believes her son is innocent as well. She told reporters outside the police station Monday night that authorities don't have a case against her son.
"If they found gun powder on his hands, you got a case; if they found a gun on him, he had a case; if they found a fingerprint on the truck that he did this, you got a case; but they don't have nothing," Michelle Davis-Balfour said.
