Guerilla Union, the concert promoters behind Murs' annual Paid Dues Festival and tour as well as Rock The Bells, has partnered with Hip-Hop Official (hiphopofficial.com) to present their first ever Rock The Bells online charity auction.
The company was inspired to get involved because of A Tribe Called Quest's Phife Dawg, who displayed tremendous strength and resilience through his current battle with diabetes, during 2008 Rock the Bells festival series.
Thanks to Phife, Guerilla Union is launching the Rock the Bells Charity Auction for Diabetes -- which will benefit the American Diabetes Association (ADA) with 100% of the proceeds.
According to Phife Dawg, "Believe it or not, diabetes affects us all. Until we find a cure it will continue to affect us. I was lucky to have a 2nd chance at life, others aren't so lucky, so please help us find a cure for this madness we call diabetes."
"Phife was an absolute inspiration to myself and our staff," adds Chang Weisberg, Guerilla Union founder. His courage and strength to perform night in and night out for Rock The Bells was nothing less than extraordinary. We are extremely excited to join his fight against this serious and deadly disease by giving back to the community through this auction. With November being Diabetes Awareness Month, our goal is to bring national attention by sharing a piece of hip-hop history with our fans."
The auction will include two custom, commemorative Rock the Bells skate decks, signed by all 2008 RTB artists including Nas, Mos Def and members from De La Soul, The Pharcyde, ATCQ, and others. In addition, several of the tour's artists and labels are getting involved by donating special autographed memorabilia.
New items will be added throughout the course of the auction, so people interested in donating will have a variety of items to bid on. Individuals will also be able to make monetary donations.
The auction will take place from December 01, 2008 to December 15, 2008, right off the heels of Diabetes Awareness Month.
