mtvU, MTV's 24-hour college network, declared rapper Atmosphere -- along with bands Paramore, There for Tomorrow, Chromeo, and others -- winners of this year's college music awards.

With over 5.2 million votes cast by college students nationwide to determine the winners, MTV hosted the fifth annual Woodies at the Roseland Ballroom in New York City on Wednesday (November 12), complete with performances from some of music's rising acts today ... and beer pong.

Atmosphere took home the Performing Woodie for best tour, while rockers Paramore landed Woodie of the Year (or Artist of the Year).

The event kicked of with a performance by rapper Asher Roth, who performed his "I Love College" anthem, before The Cool Kids' "Delivery Man" spawned crowd-surfing within the audience and culminated their performance with ice cream sandwiches being thrown into the crowd. Lykke Li transformed the night with haunting vocals and a surprise collaboration with hip-hop icon Q-Tip for "Can I Kick It," followed by a medley of "Move," "Vibrant Thing" and "Gettin' Up."

Woodie of the Year nominee Santogold's retro 80s chic lit up the night with L.E.S. Artists, before Naeem Juwan of Spank Rock joined her on stage for an unannounced performance of "Shove It."

For the first time ever, mtvU and college students across the nation awarded a college campus radio station a chunk of wood for their commitment to bringing students the latest indie and emerging music. 20 campus radio stations were nominated, with 91.7 FM, WICB Ithaca College taking home the inaugural College Radio Woodie.

mtvU also teamed up with BestMusicOnCampus.com to recognize the top unsigned college acts who resonated most with students nationwide this year. New York University's The Bride Wore Black took home the "Best Music on Campus Woodie" as best college band, along with a $5,000 cash prize and exposure on mtvU.

A half-hour special, called "Best of the mtvU Woodie Awards" -- filmed at the "Woodies" after-party at Edison Ballroom, will air November 22nd at 10 p.m. ET on MTV, and November 21st at 7 pm ET on MTV2, followed by special presentation of the "Woodies" on MTV News.

Winner: There For Tomorrow (Hopeless Records)

Left Field Woodie – (Most Original Artist)
Winner: Chromeo (Vice Records)

Best Video Woodie – (Best Video of the Year)
Winner: Motion City Soundtrack "It Had to be You" (Epitaph Records)

The Good Woodie – (Greatest Social Impact)
Winner: Jack's Mannequin (Warner Bros Records) – "Dear Jack Foundation"

Performing Woodie – (Best Tour)
Winner: Atmosphere (Rhymesayers Entertainment)

College Radio Woodie – (Best Campus Radio Station)
Winner: 91.7 FM, WICB Ithaca College

Best Music on Campus Woodie
Winner: The Bride Wore Black

Fuck that, Atmosphere is the still the shit. Slug changes things up every couple of albums and people have to stop and think about it. Ant's production is as good as it's ever been. Paint That Shit Gold and Strictly Leakage were both dope, but underappreciated. I don't know what eo's talking about, cuz Atmosphere was IT in the underground when the underground was at it's best (late 90's, early 2000's)

i ain't a huge Slug fan, but i can't deny that the shit he spit on the Dynospectrum album was sick...you right, Slug brought that emo shit to the UG and everybody tried to immitate it which was ass..and yeah, Subtle is raw but i think there are nicer niggas in the UG..

Fuck slug.... dude always sucked. And Fuck mtvU for not giving subtle an award. Subtle is better than every one of those groups.... again cosing comment 1 slug fell off hard..he's part of why underground hip hoppers get treated like suckers he was a huge part of that bad underground era that ruined a great legacy. Fuck him.

big up to Atmosphere even though both Ant and Slug fell off...their last album was still pretty good though..
