The nominees for the 2008 American Music Awards (AMAs) were announced Tuesday (October 14), and Alicia Keys leads the way with five noms, including the ceremony's biggest honor, Artist of the Year.
In addition to Artist of the Year, Keys is also in the running for Favorite Female Artist in pop/rock and soul/R&B, and Favorite Album in both the pop/rock and soul/R&B categories for her latest LP As I Am. The singer is the only female in the Artist of the Year category, up against Coldplay, the Eagles and Lil Wayne.
Lil Wayne also earned a few nods as well, thanks to all of his hard work this year. In addition to being up against Keys for Artist of the Year, he's also up for Album of the Year for Tha Carter III, and Favorite Male Artist.
Other notables nominees include Chris Brown for Favorite Male Artist in the pop/rock and soul/R&B categories; Kanye West with two nods, one for Favorite Male Artist in hip-hop and the other for Favorite Rap Album for Graduation; Jay-Z landed a nod in the Favorite Rap Album category for American Gangster; while Usher and Mariah Carey nabbed two AMA nods a piece, both receiving nominees for Favorite Male/Female Artist of the Year in the pop/rock category.
Also, Flo-Rida, Rihanna, J. Holiday, the Wu-Tang Clan, G-Unit and The Dream all received nods this year as well.
The AMAs is scheduled for November 23 at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles and will air live on ABC with Jimmy Kimmel as host.
