After a new track with Jay-Z and Uncle Murda, titled "He Asked For It," leaked this week, internet fans went crazy over what many believed were disses toward Fat Joe, DJ Khaled and Terror Squad.
On the track, which DJ Kay Slay blasted on the air Thursday night (October 9), Jay raps:
"Gangsta, Gangsta, how ya'll wanna do this? I clap n****s down for yappin' all foolish / ain't no stopping this Roc-A-Fella movement. The name is Jay Guevara, homie, who are you? / And, your off-beat deejay, if anything he play sound familiar? I'll wait till Pharrell say, 'Play 'em.' Now I'ma have to diss you, Joe. You can get a smack for that. Matter fact, the gats will blow ... Your toy squad will get squashed, Boy–yard dee, ya'll be lost in the sauce partly because ya'll boss ain't a leader. He's a follower. No, I'm not coppin' ya album or your single, you likely to go copper ..."
Since the track aired, Fat Joe has caught wind, releasing a statement that said he doesn't have a problem with the former Def Jam Prez.
"I have no beef whatsoever with Jay-Z. In fact, we share a common goal ... helping to get Barack Obama elected on November 4th," the rapper said in a statement.
While Joe's response didn't shed any light on what might have happened behind the scenes to cause tension between the two New York rappers, producer Just Blaze blogged about the track, which he says is very old.
"So for some reason people think this 'new' Jay/Uncle Murda thing is a Fat Joe/Khaled diss. It's not," Jus wrote. "It's also like 8,000 years old and somehow dude got his hands on it and put a verse on it."
Blaze goes on to explain that the track was recorded around the time that Jay dropped his 2002 album, The Blueprint 2: The Gift & The Curse, nearly six years ago.
"Now that I recall, it's Blueprint 2 era. I was going to use this verse for the S.Carter Remix CD, but we couldn't get the Pro Tools in time. Don't fall for the okeydoke," he concluded.
