Following an appearance at the recent VH1 Hip-Hop Honors awards show, where they were honorees, Naughty By Nature reveals that they will reunite for a new album, slated for next year.
Prior to the news, the trio had last performed together in 2006 for a one-night engagement at B.B. King's in New York.
"We've been talking about reuniting for about two years," group member, DJ Kay Gee, told Billboard.com. "Then about three months ago, we decided to go ahead."
In addition to Kay Gee, the other two members include Treach and Vinnie.
Naughty's new album is tentatively titled Anthem Inc, reports Billboard. While their plans are to go the indie route for the forthcoming album's release, they are currently shopping for distribution.
As for what new music from the trio would sound like? The group says it'll be the same overall theme -- parties and socio-political anthems -- but more grown up.
"We're going to make universal party tracks with great hooks; street anthems, social and political anthems, anthems for the ladies," Kay Gee explained of new material. "Nothing has changed from that standpoint. But we're not 19-20 anymore, so things will be a little different lyrically. We don't want to make a record that sounds like we're just trying to chase 15-year-olds. We do want to appeal to them, but at the same time, we want the music to be natural and comfortable for us."
Despite their time apart, Naughty is still on point, added the group's frontman Treach. He told Billboard that their chemistry is "like getting into a time machine going from the past to the future."
Stay tuned for further information about the project.
