The underground hip-hop supergroup, known as The Weathermen, is finally at work on their long-awaited full-length album, after nearly 10 years since they were originally formed.

Aesop Rock -- who alongside El-P, Cage, Tame One, Yak Ballz and Breeze Brewin make up The Weathermen -- recently revealed, via an interview with Boost Mobile, that the six-man team is adamant at getting the long overdue project started, following the death of member Camu Tao.

"Camu Tao is another member of The Weathermen, who died earlier this year, so it sort of shook us all up to like 'Let's do a record together already, it's pretty silly that we haven't,' " Aesop explained backstage at this year's Treasure Island Music Festival in California. "It's been a pretty weird year because of that. That's kind of the driving force behind us finally getting it in gear to do this record together as a unit, and try to make it finally happen."

Camu Tao died in May 2008 after a two-year battle with lung cancer.

For those not knowing what to expect from an album recorded by these six underground great, Aesop describes the as-yet-titled project as a "very Wu-Tang-esque record."

"It's six emcees and it's a couple producers in there too. I dunno, we're just gonna try to make a very Wu-Tang-esque record. Just a bunch of posse cuts, and make something that's very ferocious if you will. We'll see what happens," the rapper said.

While the album is far from being completed, Aesop is adamant that the project will be underway soon, and when it's finished the six men plan to hit the road together ... finally.

"Every year, we're like 'Yea, and then after that we'll do the Weathermen tour,' but it seems to always get pushed back," Aesop replied when asked if fans can expect a tour. "When you have six artists, someone's always working on something. Someone's in the studio doing their solo record, and then I've been on tour for a while, and someone's doing something else. We're all gonna try to sort of set aside time to do the record and do the tour together as one. It's about time."

The Weathermen album is expected to be released through El-P's Definitive Jux label.
