There's a lot going on this week on the Billboard 200, but it's the King of the South who is sitting at the throne, going gold in his first week out.
T.I. earned his third straight chart-topper this week with Paper Trail landing at no. 1, selling 568,000 copies, the third biggest sales week for an album this year. The album's sales comes as his single, "Live Your Life" featuring Rihanna, made the largest uphill climb in Billboard's Hot 100 chart history -- jumping from no. 80 to no. 1. It has also sold nearly 335,000 digital singles.
The ATL rapper landed at no. 1 in 2006 with King and then the following year with T.I. Vs. T.I.P. His new album's numbers marks Atlantic Records' biggest-ever one-week scan since Nielsen SoundScan began tracking data in 1991.
Right behind T.I., at no. 2, is former "American Idol" contestant Jennifer Hudson and her self-titled debut, selling 217,000 copies. Her first single, "Spotlight," has peaked at no. 3 thus far on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs tally, reports Billboard.com.
At no. 3 is Robin Thicke's latest, Something Else, which sold 137,000 copies and helped him score his best sales week to date. His previous release, The Evolution of Robin Thicke, peaked at no. 5 in 2006.
Falling to no. 10, rounding out the chart's top showings, is Jazmine Sullivan's debut Fearless, which slide from no. 6 to 10, recording 35% sales hit to 42,000.
Young Jeezy's Recession sold another 38,754 copies this week, putting him at no. 12. His album is nearing gold with just under 490,000 sold.
At no. 14 is Lil Wayne's The Carter III, selling over 34,000 copies, putting his total number at over 2.5 million to date. While The Game's LAX sells 28,000, as he also nears gold.
Los Angeles underground great Murs, of the Living Legends crew, debuted at no. 43 with Murs For President. Despite coverage from MTV and around the interview, he sold just 12,159 to open.
According to Billboard.com, sales this week are up 15.7% from last week's sum but down a 16.1% from the same week last year.
