50 Cent is set to make a musical comeback by the year's end. After announcing recently that he'd be dropping what could be his last album on Interscope Records -- titled Before I Self Destruct -- in December, Fiddy reveals that he'll also release a feature film of the same title simultaneously.
According to what the rapper tells Rolling Stone, the film is based on the album. "It's not 'Purple Rain,' b ut it was inspired by the actual music," 50 said.
The film isn't autobiographical, 50 explained. Instead, it will attempt to show the complexities of what 50 refers to as "urban life" in a new way.
"When [movies] portray certain lifestyles they don't show cause and effect," he tells the magazine. "But I showed characters under pressure in scenarios where they felt like there were no other options, even though there were."
"There are always options. People just usually start to see them while being incarcerated -- for not seeing them in the first place," 50 adds.
While the film will be based around the album, 50 tells Rolling Stone that its score and soundtrack won't include the same music. Why? Because he doesn't want his label, Interscope, to dip into its profits.
"Then Interscope would automatically have the rights to it, when they had absolutely no ownership of the actual material," 50 explained.
He actually penned a separate score for the film and recruited unsigned artists to record vocals, he says. But, the music will stay consistent with the quality of music he always releases.
"I kept the music up to standards," says 50. "I worked with it until it was right."
Before I Self-Destruct is slated to drop December 9th. The film will drop around the same time.
