For the second straight year, Loud.com has launched their Annual Online rap battle, in which aspiring rappers battle it out for the chance to win $100,000 and a recording contract with SRC/Universal MoTown.
This year, Loud has included a Producer Challenge, where aspiring music producers have the opportunity to add their original beats to the Loud Online Recording Studio. Their beats immediately become available to contestants in the $100,000 Online Rap Battle, and the winning producer will take home $15,000 as well as a production deal.
"We are working to present all creative instruments for our community on Loud.com to make them future multi-faceted stars within the music industry," said industry veteran Steve Rifkind, CEO of LOUD.com. "By providing an improved platform to our users, we hope to make the talent pool even better this time around, and find the next hot aspiring MC and producer we can absorb into the SRC Records / Loud.com family."
The first round's judges are superpopulars Cool & Dre.
"We got involved with Loud.com because it's real, not some fly by night operation, or a site with a bunch of promises," Cool & Dre told BallerStatus.com. "They do what they say... Congrats to the last winner (Tha Crow), who is currently in the studio recording his album ... with some money in his pocket."
"Two reasons," Sha Money added, as to why he got involved. "This is my chance to give back and allow all the new talent out there to hear how they would sound over one of my monster tracks. And two, the Loud.com staff and Steve Rifkind are legends and great taste makers in this game and are gonna keep expanding this site for people who love and enjoy the culture of hip-hop."
The current competition not only grants registered users the chance to upload their original compositions as entries for the chance to win the big prize, but also allows multiple users to work collaboratively to enter. The main contest tool is Loud's patented Online Recording Studio. It is a virtual studio, which houses brand new tracks from some of hip-hop's biggest producers (including Sha Money XL, DJ Green Lantern, Havoc of Mobb Deep, DJ Khaled and Cool and Dre). Once registered, users can begin laying their vocals over these beats and then entering the finished songs in the competition without any additional hardware.
Last year's grand prize winner was Tha Crow. He is currently readying the release of his official mixtape hosted by DJ Warrior and is currently working on his debut album to be released on SRC/Universal Motown.
At the end of the 20-week long contest, one winner will be chosen from the Producer Challenge, along with 10 finalists from the Online Rap Battle and be given a set of challenges. The resulting competition will be chronicled in The Finalists: Season 2, a webisode series via Loud.com, and ultimately produce the winner of the Online Rap Battle.
