Evin Cosby, daughter of comedian/actor Bill Cosby, recently spoke out about her troubles with relating to the non-upper class section of the African American population, much like the criticism Sen. Barack Obama faces about being among the black elite.

While speaking with New York's Daily News, Evin said she has been accused of talking "white" by peers -- which is something she can't understand.

"My own people used to say to me, 'You speak like a white woman,'" she told the paper. "What does that even mean, anyway? Everyone has their way of speaking and living their life. No one should be judging and assuming that because I'm black, I have to speak in that hip-hop way. That's something I prefer not to do."

Like Obama, Evin attended schools of an upper-class upbringing -- Obama went to Harvard Law School, and Evin attended private schools during her younger years. While these types of things are pluses on your resume, both Evin and Obama are criticized for being out of touch with poor African-Americans.

Evin, however, doesn't seem to be bothered by it. In fact, she says she can't really relate to others outside her privileged circle.

"I always went to private schools -- Bank Street elementary, Columbia Prep -- so I was surrounded by people like me. Not so much African-American, but privileged," she admitted to the Daily News' blog. "I don't really have a connection to other people who didn't have my lifestyle. But my dad is very into helping people from his own community in Philadelphia."

Evin runs a new boutique, PB & Caviar, in Tribeca, which her father encouraged her to open. It carries labels like Vanita Rose, Anna Sui, Sestra Moja and Interluid for women, as well as clothing for children.

It's located at 88 Thomas St, and opened it in early August.

Here's the back story - It's the 21st Century and being poor played out a long time ago especially for black America. There should not be any Projects but your asses working on Projects! . And if it was ever a rule to be in place, it would this, you get pregnant, if you can't take care of a child, abort! If you have a child, mandatory DNA tests in the hospitals. Mandatory starting a college saving fund. It should be mandatory that all black kids do high school then go to college - by any means necessary. And this is whether you feel it's a waste of time or not. If you're running around in the streets when you should be in school, you're either a fool or mentally retarded. Sarah Palin's disabled kid has a better chance at success then you and that's a damn shame!

She's lucky. Her father came from one of the worst parts of Killadelphia called "North Philly". Everyone outside of this area never wanted to go into this area. And if she said all this in the "company of people who don't meet her criteria for class" in North Philly....well you know what would have happened. The whole talking white thing is in part, using proper words in a formative sentence that your listen can understand. (Like I just did..) free of pontifications and street slang. But it's also the "effect" on words and certain inflections used by some white people in conversation. You hear it especially by those young girl fakers in Hollyweird.

People of all social backgrounds,many of them poor Blacks who have worked hard and have succeeded academically, attend Harvard. To say that Obama has always attended shcools for the privileged is odious and inaccurate. He had to scratch and earn his weay there.Dr.Cosby's dfaughter, on the other hand, attended private, upper-class schools from elementary throughout. Big difference. Get it.

Okay, fat girl is out of touch. 1) We have never heard Tracee Ross (Diana Ross) ever state she was out of touch and Ms. Tracee along with her three sisters truly experienced the life of the rich. All three went to boarding school out of the United States. Matter of factly she spoke about her mother sending them to Detroit for the summer to spend time with relatives and sleeping on the floor. Its reasons like this article that the black family is a fading memory. Money and Class and where you grew up mean way more than your race. Its just socailization,imagine if Evin tried to bring home a brother from the hood to meet Bill and Camille back in the late 80's or whenever she was a teen. He'd get shut down quicker than TI in the movie ATL. So after decades of that Im sure black men arent attractive to her. Frankly she's not that attractive to me either. I just have to say that whoever wrote this article is seriously out of touch her damn self. To think that just because Obama went to Harvard Law school for what 3-4 years of his life that he will just lose touch of his humble up bringing is ridiculous. You can be educated, well spoken and still know where you come from. I feel that most people who go to college have a better grasps of there African American history than those who don't cause America really doesn't educate their student too much about African American history in high school. The only thing you learn in high school is slavery and civil rights. Wake up America African Americans have done so much more and we don't even know our history. I love my Black people!
