Days after two Jacksonville Jaguars players were arrested, another has been shot, and is in critical condition.
According to the Associated Press, the team's offensive tackle Richard Collier was shot and critically wounded outside an apartment building at around 2:45 a.m. Tuesday (September 2), as he and a former Jacksonville teammate waited for two women they had met at a nightclub.
The 26-year-old player was reportedly waiting in a Cadillac Escalade when a gunman fired into the vehicle, Jacksonville Sheriff's Office spokesman Ken Jefferson said. Collier was shot several times, but it wasn't clear where he was hit.
As of Tuesday, Collier was in critical condition at Shands Jacksonville Medical Center, but the hospital was no longer giving updates on Collier's condition at press time.
The Jaguars owner, Wayne Weaver, released a statement confirming that the player was in critical condition, but said he is currently stable.
"We're shocked and deeply saddened by this morning's news about Richard Collier. We have been informed that Richard has had surgery and he's in critical but stable condition. The entire Jaguars family is praying for Richard and his family at this time," Weaver said.
Police are currently investigating the shooting, and said that the motive behind the attack was unknown.
Pettway, who was released in final cuts Saturday, was not injured.
