The legal issues continue to stack up for rapper DMX. A Phoenix judge issued a bench warrant for the rapper Tuesday afternoon (August 12) after he decided not to show up for a pre-trial hearing for drug charges.
According to local media, the Maricopa County Superior Court not only issued a warrant, but also upped his bond to $25,000 as a penalty for his failure to show.
X's public defender, Charles Kozelka, had until 4 p.m. to provide documentation explaining the rapper's absence, or the bench warrant would be issued. It's obvious he did not make the deadline.
The rapper (real name: Earl Simmons) is charged with one count of marijuana possession and four counts of drug paraphernalia possession, in connection with a previous raid of his Arizona home.
These charges are just the tip of the iceberg of the charges he is also facing in the state -- including animal cruelty charges and other drug possession charges, and identity theft -- which he has pleaded not guilty to -- for allegedly providing false information to a Scottsdale hospital earlier this year.
At press time, a call to X's lawyer was not returned for comment.
