Lil Wayne Sued Over Alleged Use Of Rolling Stones Song

A publishing company filed a lawsuit against Lil Wayne in Manhattan on Thursday (July 24), claiming the rapper used an altered version of the Rolling Stones' song "Play With Fire," which they own the rights to, for his own version.
According to Reuters, Abkco Music Inc sued the rapper, his collaborators and his record company for copyright infringement and unfair competition.
The suit was filed in federal court in Manhattan, and seeks unspecified damages.
The Wayne song in question is a track called "Playing With Fire," from his most recent -- nearly double platinum -- album, Tha Carter III.
They claim the song is a clear derivative of the Rolling Stones version with the original lyrics and music altered in a recognizable way.
One example they referenced said a lyric from the Stones' song says "But don't play with me, 'cause you're playing with fire," while Wayne's version has the line, "But you can't blame me if I set this stage on fire."
Abkco claim that Lil Wayne's use of explicit language on the track could lead the public to believe they and the Rolling Stones approved of and authorized the new version.
