Underground rap stalwart Murs is running for the position of Hip-Hop President with his forthcoming album Warner Bros. album, Murs For President, slated for September

We recently ran into the Los Angeles based MC, and he explained what his Presidential campaign entailed. Murs wants a change, not only in the hip-hop landscape, but on mainstream radio and MTV. He says these changes can be made, he just needs your vote. How do you vote? You buy his album, to make a statement.

"Get ready to go support Murs For President 'cause you're money is your vote. If you spend your money, you should be buying dope sh**," Murs told BallerStatus.com. "[Labels don't care], they just want money, whatever makes money. So if you spend your money on the right sh**, that's your real vote. Vote for Barack or whoever this fall, but vote with your dollars on September 30th for Murs For President, so that -- Atmosphere, Brother Ali and everything -- you'll see that on the radio. That's what I wanna see on MTV and radio."

As a part of his campaign and to give back to the fans, this Friday (July 18), Murs will be releasing, via the internet, a free album he recently completed with 9th Wonder called Sweet Lord. It's the producer and MC's third project together, and will be available for download on Friday at MursForPresident.com.

"The fans deserve it," Murs said regarding the free project. "They've been supporting us for years, and it was just sitting there. We had done it and we wanted to take songs off and put it on my record, but I liked the body of work as it is ... I've been waiting to put something out. I can't wait any longer."

His official album, Murs For President, has been two years in the making, the longest he's ever worked on the project. Murs does, however, admit that the long hours put on these records have made him nervous.

"I never worked this long with nothing, never in my life. Two years of working on one thing is kicking my ass ya'll," Murs admitted. "Hopefully it's worth it. Now I'm nervous. I feel like I've over thought the whole thing. You study long, you study wrong. ... Staying on this record for two years has been a grind and I hope everybody appreciates it."

Despite the nervousness, he feels as though he's created his best work to date. Murs exclaims that this project will give fans the "complete L.A., Los Angeles Murs experience."

"I rap about peace and love, and having fun man. Same sh** as always, a couple crazy stories, and just representing L.A. and real west coast sh** -- the weirdos that still get down and mix amongst the street people and the weirdos all over the place. It's the complete L.A., Los Angeles Murs experience. It's the best album I've done yet. The next one will be better, but get this one so you understand the next one."

The first song is slated to be a track called "Can I Be," a Michael Jackson song, which marks Murs' dedication to make a change for the better with his words and through his influence on others.

Until the album, fans can enjoy the free download, and also catch him on the Rock The Bells tour, which begins Saturday (July 19) in Chicago. A full list of dates can be located at RockTheBells.net.

Murs For President hits stores September 30.
