While controversy and negative imagery is usually attached to the rap music world, there are several artists who often do much to give back to their communities. One such artist is Houston's Trae tha Truth.

In honor of his outstanding work within the community, the city of Houston is honoring Trae with his own day, the first time this honor has been extended to a rap artist.

On July 22nd, the city is recognizing this date as Trae Day. The proclamation honoring Trae will be read at 2 p.m. on that day by Houston's Mayor, Bill White, and the ceremony will be attended by city officials and several prominent rap artists.

In further celebration of Trae Day, Trae is throwing what is to become an annual event -- a block party at Houston's Sharpstown Mall where he will be joined city officials and members of the rap community, as well as hundreds of children and their families from the communities that Trae routinely gives back to.

The party will feature games and rides for the children, food and drinks, and free live performances by Trae and a host of very special surprise guests.

Last year saw the release of his Rap-A-Lot Records debut, Life Goes On. Trae has since left the Texas label, and is a free agent weighing his options. He currently has a critically acclaimed mixtape in circulation, The Diary of Tha Truth, a song with Slim Thug ("Nothing to a Boss"), and a single featuring DJ Khaled ("So Hot").

In the course of his music career, Trae has scanned well over 200,000 units, both as a solo artist and as a member of ABN Gang, without the benefit of major promotion.

According to Trae's team, he's close to inking a new deal, and plans to announce the new soon.
