Former TVT Records VP of Promotions, Joey Carvello, recently revealed to BallerStatus.com that he is finished with working for other labels, and has founded his own label, Upstream Music Group.

After several years at numerous labels, the industry veteran has decided it was time for him to take all of his experience and expertise and start his own. Upstream Music Group was born, via a distribution deal with Asylum Records.

While labels continues to struggle thanks to declining record sales, Carvello feels the key to Upstream's success will be to remain "lean and mean."

"We're a four-man operation; a basic mom & pops shop focused on making great music, developing artists, [and] building new associations while maintaining our deep well off relationships," he said in a statement, "which have been built on credibility, confidence and passion -- all while maintaining a low overhead."

Upstream Music Group will offer 360 deals to its acts, according to Carvello, and will a promotion, marketing, publicity and publishing company for management, recording artists and other labels.

Carvello new move comes on the heels of the end of TVT Records, which was auctioned off in mid-June and sold to The Orchard. The label had long-rumored to be in financial trouble, and the straw that broke the camel's back came when a label lost a judgment against Florida label, Slip-N-Slide Records, among other things.

However, before that he had a long resume of experience throughout the music industry. In the late 80s, he held down the Director of Dance Music position at Atlantic Records, before moving over to Priority Records where he rose to Vice President of Top 40 Promotions. Carvello eventually landed at TVT, where he helped the label sell more than 12 million records.

He plans to repeat his success today under his own roof and label.
