Four female rappers, who have as of late been absent from the scene, have joined forces for a new project, in an attempt to renew the female rapper's presence in the game and show solidarity.
The FEM (Females Earning Money) consists of Babs Bunny, Lady Luck, Amil, and the Lady of Rage, and were brought together with the help of Ed Lover and former Bounce Squad member Uneek.
"This is the perfect time to do a project like this", said Ed Lover, who serves as co-executive producer for the FEM Movement. "A lot of people have been wondering what happened to the female MCs, well these ladies are about to prove that they are here and they are better than ever. The FEM Movement is great for the future of hip-hop."
Uneek, a former female MC who now serves as manager for both Lady Luck and Babs, is fully aware of the struggles for female rapper in the game and saw FEM as an opportunity for a female super group that prove that female rappers can work together.
"Females don't come together enough and we need to show unity and cohesiveness. Men do it all the time and now it's our time to stand up, stand together and make some money", said Uneek of the collaboration. "FEM gives these talented women an opportunity to come together as a movement to show the power that we have when we work as a team, while still allowing each member to maintain their solo MC status."
"Women seem to have a hard time working together, but we are about to change that and make history", said Lady Luck.
The female MCs have been in the game for quite some time, some more than a decade, but they are still hungry, and still have something to prove, as they've yet to reach their full potential.
"None of us are amateurs," said Babs, former contestant of MTV's "Making The Band 2." "We are all very talented and we have all worked with major artists in the industry. Rage with Dr. Dre and Snoop, Amil with Jay-Z, Luck with Def Jam and EPMD, and myself with Diddy. But at the same time we all still have something to prove."
The four ladies are currently in the studio working on their first mixtape together, which will be hosted by DJ Doo Wop. There is no word as to when it will drop, but the rappers plan to tour and work on an album together.
