Damon Dash, the man who helped Jay-Z take Roc-A-Fella Records from the streets to the corporate level, and his wife Rachel Roy announced Monday (June 16) that they've has formed a $4 billion dollar joint venture Jones Apparel Group to develop, market and license the New York-based fashion brand named after his wife.

"Both Rachel and her clothing appeal to many audiences around the world, making her a widely renowned design talent," said Dash in a statement. "Through this partnership, we will be able to explore new opportunities for Rachel Roy, the brand."

Founded in 2004, by Roy and Dash, the Rachel Roy collection embodies everything for women who embrace fashion and dress, says the company, and also adds that effortless glamour, sophistication with a modern edge.

Via the joint venture, the partners plan to further develop the successful brand through continued global expansion of the wholesale business, introduction of new product categories, and stand-alone retail stores in key U.S. and international locations.

Rachel Roy will continue to lead the design, manufacturing and production of the brand.

At press time, additional terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

The line is currently available in the luxury department and select specialty stores, including Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom and Saks, and internationally in countries such as the United Kingdom, Hong Kong, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, South Korea, Canada, Turkey and Indonesia.

I wonder if $4 billion is the combined value of the investment companies. Probably doesn't mean they're going to put $4 billion behind the clothing line...just means the "joint venturers" have $4 billion in backing or assets.

Dame didn't get 4 billion off back . Its a net worth of 4 billion in dues time. And I'm pretty sure that's if the line is as successful as projected. People just see numbers and be like wow! He got that much. Yall gotta understand the business before yall get all nieve on shit. For dame and his wife its a good business deal, but then you have to factor in how much dame actually gets being that his wife is the wheel that is steering the line. Man, only the foolish would believe that Damon Dash and Rachel Roy got a 4 billion dollar deal. Versace, Levis, Guess and other solid brands dont get money close to that! And you think someone would be stupid enough to put that type of money in the hands of an arrogant failed CEO! Dash Films failed, Damon Dash music group failed, Pro Keds failed. Guaranteed!! Dame Dash was very instrumental in making this deal possible. The combination of Dame, Jay and Biggs; was what made Roc-a-Fella as lucrative at the top, as it was. By themselves, they were almost non-existent. Jay may look like a man that is doing well financially, but when the corporate world realizes that his business sense is not as keen, as it should be; his value will be diminished greatly.
