UK Rapper M.I.A. To Open Two Schools In Africa

British rapper M.I.A.earned a reported $100,000 for a performance at an MTV Awards afterparty. But instead of buying jewelry or making it rain, she's building schools.

According to AHN, the 30-year-old UK rapper of Sri Lankan descent plans to build two schools in Africa with her paycheck.

"They're giving me $100,000. Not bad, eh?" she said while on stage. "I'm going to use it to build schools in Liberia. It costs $52,000 to build a school for 1,000."

M.I.A. isn't the first to help the poor country, both Madonna and Oprah Winfrey have also started schools for the underprivileged in Africa.
