Ne-Yo Pleads Guilty To Reckless Driving Charge

Singer-songwriter Ne-Yo pleaded guilty to driving without a license, and no contest to a reckless driving charge on Monday (June 2), stemming from an arrest in February.

According to local paper The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the singer (real name: Shaffer Chimere Smith) was given 24 hours of community service, a $1,000 fine and must attend defense driving class.

As a part of the community service sentence, he will perform a concert for the Boys & Girls Club.

Back in February 2007, Ne-Yo was pulled over while driving his 2006 Range Rover at speeds "well over 100 mph," said police.

He was arrested at around 3:40 a.m. that morning, and changed with reckless driving and driving without a valid license.

Aside from the recent court date, Ne-Yo is gearing up for the release of a new album, titled The Year Of The Gentleman, which is scheduled for August.
