"I didn't want to do it." Those were the words uttered by the prosecution's main witness, Lisa Van Allen, in R. Kelly's child pornography trial on Monday (June 2).
27-year-old Van Allen was the prosecution's last witness before resting its case, and she testified that she partook in several three-way sexual encounters with the R&B singer and the alleged victim, some of which she said Kelly videotaped.
She went into details, when describing her second videotaped sexual encounter with Kelly and the underage girl, but said it was cut short because she had begun crying, claiming the singer then told her it made the footage useless: "He couldn't watch that, he couldn't do anything with that."
As tears ran down her cheeks during her testimony, she also revealed that Kelly allegedly offered her $250,000 to recover a tape of one of the trysts.
When it was the defense's turn for questioning, Kelly's attorney, Sam Adam, accused Van Allen of trying to extort money from the singer, which she denied. However, she admitted to once stealing Kelly's $20,000 diamond-studded watch from a hotel.
"Van Allen is an admitted thief and liar who wouldn't know the truth if she tripped over it," Kelly's business manager, Derrel McDavid, said in a statement.
During her time on the stand Van Allen testified that once she was one of Kelly's mistresses, she met up with the singer frequently between 1998 and 2001, beginning when she was just 17 years old. She participated in at least three three-way sexual encounters with the singer during this time, she said, including one in the Colorado Room at his former residence, one on a mattress on his indoor basketball court at his former residence, and one in his trailer on the set of his video for "A Woman's Threat" -- and she claimed each of those encounters involved the girl that prosecutors say is on the sex tape.
She said the encounters were in 1998, 1999 and 2000 -- when the girl was 14 through 16 years old. At the beginning of the encounters, in 1998, Kelly was 30 years old.
Van Allen has been given immunity from prosecution on both a state and federal level.
41-year-old Kelly could face as much as 15 years in prison if convicted of child pornography on suspicion of videotaping himself having sex with a female prosecutors say was as young as 13.
He has pleaded not guilty and both he and the alleged victim, now 23, deny being on the video -- which is separate from those Van Allen testified to being on.
According to the Associated Press, jurors will get Tuesday off before the defense begins its presentation on Wednesday (June 4).
