While the network was promoting their 2008 Hottest MC list, they were running an online poll that included 30 names of rappers, where the fans could vote ... and it was The Game who came out on top by a landslide, according to MTV.
MTV did, however, explain why the Compton rapper was left off this year's list after coming in at no. 3 on the 2007 list. They said it was due to inactivity.
The Game beat out rappers such as Lupe Fiasco, Lil Wayne, 50 Cent, Kanye West and even Jay-Z, to take no. 1 by voters.
Another surprise was Styles P coming in at no. 2.
The vote was tallied by more than 66,000 votes, reports MTV, from 125 countries, and The Game garnered 29% of the votes, while Styles took 17%.
MTV's pick, Kanye West, sat at no. 7, while MTV's no. 2, Jay-Z, tied with no. 8 with Joe Budden and T.I.
The voter's list is as follows:
1. Game 2. Styles P 3. Lupe Fiasco 4. Nas 5. 50 Cent 6. Lil Wayne 7. Kanye West 8. Jay-Z 8. Joe Budden 8. T.I.
