In January, hip-hop legend/activist KRS-One, brought some of the genre's finest through The Los Angeles Recording School (LARS) during Grammy week for three days of recording sessions.

The event was in the name of his non-profit organization (Stop the Violence Movement), so using his influence, KRS invited a variety of talent to contribute to his upcoming release, Self Construction, a multi-artist project reminiscent of 1989's "Self Destruction."

Along with KRS-One, 59 of hip-hop's finest stopped by the school's SSL 4000 studio to donate their creativity and time in the spirit of community and urgency in the fight against violence. Some of the artists that recorded at the school included Nelly, The Game, David Banner and Chamillionaire, as well as members of LA's vibrant underground hip-hop scene including Planet Asia, Rakaa Iriscience, and 2Mex.

"This is undoubtedly, a momentous occasion," KRS-One said of the three-day event. "For all of these artists to come here in the name of peace is a huge step in the right direction for the hip-hop community."

BET's "Rap City" and iTunes were on hand to capture the historic gathering, while LARS graduates and faculty assisted in engineering the project.

"We were happy to be able to donate our facilities and staff for this worthwhile activity," said Steve Miller, LARS Director of Education. "It was a great opportunity for our school, especially our students, who were welcomed to engage with the artists and participate in this incredible movement."

LARS was founded in 1985 and is located on Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood. The private post-secondary educational institution teaches its students all aspects of recording session procedures and technologies in both instructional and hands-on lab environments. The facility boasts over 19 studios and labs featuring state-of-the-art equipment.
