Mariah Carey is once again giving her acting aspirations a go. Seven years after appearing in the box office bomb, "Glitter," the singer is back with a new movie called "Tennessee."

The film, which is a road-trip flick like "Glitter," premiered at New York's Tribeca Film Festival last Saturday (April 26), in which Carey plays a waitress that two brother meet while in search of their estranged father.

So far, it seems she gave a good performance in the new film, and actually enjoyed the role.

"Mariah said, 'This is going to be refreshing for me; this is actually something that I want,' even knowing that it was a gritty, hard shoot," director Aaron Woodley told Reuters. "Some people even told me that they forgot it was Mariah Carey when they were watching the film."

Following the negative reviews and commercial disappointment of "Glitter," Mariah went through a rough patch, and there were numerous rumors of the diva going through a nervous breakdown.

However, she's since bounced back.

In 2005, The Emancipation of Mimi marked her return, and was wildly successful. She also earned rave reviews for her performance in "WiseGirls," a comedy-drama that premiered at the Sundance Film Festival.

This year, things seem to be repeating themselves. She's returned again, with a new slim look, ad her new album, E=MC2, debuted atop the Billboard 200, where she earned her sixth no. 1 album.

E=MC2's single, "Touch My Body," was also her 18th U.S. no. 1 -- taking her past Elvis Presley -- and just behind the Beatles, who managed 20 no. 1 songs.
