Rapper Shawty Lo is slated to release a new street DVD chronicling his story, following him as goes along with his career and gives back to the community.
The new DVD, entitled "The Real Bankhead Story," will feature footage of the D4L member recording at his Atlanta studio, backstage at his shows and in his element on Bankhead, the neighborhood in which he claims the title as "King."
However, despite his controversial past, the rapper is also an advocate for giving back to his community. In the DVD, you will see when he isn't working, he's helping to give back.
He recently hosted an episode of the nationally recognized campaign "Make It Rain In The Hood" along with Hot 107.9 radio personality Pezo In Da Cribb where the rapper freely gave out cash, groceries, raffle prizes, provided complimentary food, haircuts and face painting for the kids.
"I love doing whatever I can for my community, especially Bankhead because that's where I grew up," said Shawty Lo. "It's not about me doing things when the cameras are rolling or doing something for just one day. On any given day, you can find me doing good in my hood."
Shawty Lo, who recently disclosed that he suffers from diabetes, will be participating as a Team Captain in the American Diabetes Association Step Out program in September, a 5K walk that raises money and promotes awareness of the chronic illness.
"The Real Bankhead Story" will be available at F.Y.E. stores on April 29.
Shawty Lo's debut album, Units In The City, is in stores now.
