Fabolous recently revealed to that he's getting ready to head into the studio for his next album, which he plans to drop sometime in August.
There's a twist though. According to MTV, the Brooklyn rapper said he'd like to do a record around a theme, much like Jay-Z did with his last album, American Gangster. His next album is inspired by a movie, although he did not reveal what movie yet.
"I'mma put a theme together and just go off of that theme," the rapper told MTV. "Sometimes producers get lost trying to figure out what they think is the best type of sh-- for Fab. [They say,] 'I got this commercial joint for you.' So what I'm doing now, I seen a movie I want to theme the album after. Even take certain lines, different scenes out of the movie and make music behind that. At the same time, I can have the producer check the movie out, and he'll have something he can take away from the movie and come back with some joints. I wanted to try that this time."
30-year-old Fabolous said it would be told through the eyes of the movie's character, just like Jay did with Frank Lucas' character.
"What Jay-Z did [with American Gangster] ... he took that Frank Lucas character and put it in the frame of his Jay character," Fab opined. "That's what I wanna do. I don't wanna say I that I'm actually the character, but take some of his scenarios or some things I went through and tell it in my tone."
As mentioned, he did not disclose the film, but said that it isn't that old and it's considered a classic.
He plans to work with DJ Toomp, Kanye West, Just Blaze and Polow Da Don, but said guest appearances would be kept to a minimum. Fab did say that his Street Family crew would be featured.
He told MTV a single will be released in May.
Additionally, his Street Family crew is in the process of creating a compilation project, and singer Deemi is the newest member.
