Miami rapper Rick Ross garners a career best this week, as he tops the charts, beating out Snoop Dogg, Fat Joe and the multi-label NOW 27 compilation, which usually is a guaranteed seller.
At no. 1 is Rick Ross' new album, Trilla, which sits at the throne with 198,000 copies sold, improving from his 187,000 first week effort for 2006's Port Of Miami.
"I told them we bossin' up," Ross told MTV. "We grinding it out. Trilla! I'm just trying to get ahead and make bigger moves. It's that movement. The industry is still there. That's what that shows."
Snoop Dogg's Ego Trippin' debuts at no. 3 with 137,000 units scanned, thanks to the top 10 success of the single "Sensual Seduction." Despite opening in the top 5, this is the lowest first-week sales total for any of Snoop's studio albums, according to Billboard.com. The album was executive produced by the superproducer collective QDT, comprised of DJ Quik, Snoop and Teddy Riley.
Bronx rapper, Fat Joe, also made his appearance on the charts as well, opening at no. 6 with just 46,000 copies sold of his Elephant In The Room album. Despite the highly-publicized beef with 50 Cent and fight with Papoose, it didn't translate into sales for Joe. The album was released independently through Terror Squad Entertainment/Imperial Records, and features guest appearances from Lil Wayne, J. Holiday and Plies.
That's it for new releases this week.
After topping the charts during the first week of her tenth studio album Discipline, then falling to no. 3 the second week, Janet Jackson has descended yet again to no. 8 this week, selling 37,600 copies, taking her three-week total to 276,400.
Still within the top 10 is Erykah Badu's New Amerykah Part One (4th World War), which grabs the no. 9 spot with 34,800 copies sold this week, bring her grand total to 200,400.
And, after 18 weeks of killing the competition, Alicia Keys' As I Am falls out of the top 10 to take the no 13 spot this week. Despite a 17% drop in sales this week, she's managed to sell 3,277,200 albums to date.
According to Billboard.com, album sales this week are up 3.4% over the prior week to 7.94 million, but down 6.6% over the same week in 2007.
