Remy Ma Must Face Gang Assault, Witness-Tampering Charges

Rapper Remy Ma, who is facing attempted murder charges for allegedly shooting an acquaintance in July over missing money, has been ordered to face witness-intimidation and gang-assault charges arising from a later bar fight, after her attorney asked that the charges be dropped, due to insufficient evidence.
The charges stem from an incident that took place on August 19 where prosecutors say the rapper (real name: Remy Smith) ordered a group of men to attack the boyfriend of Makeda Barnes-Joseph (see "Remy Ma Accused Of Roughing Up Witnesses"), who she is accused of shooting in July after a dispute that took place in front of a New York nightspot (see "Remy Ma Arrested, Charged With Attempted Murder").
According to the Associated Press, the man suffered a shattered jaw in the attack.
Remy Ma's lawyer, Ivan Fisher, attempted to get the additional charges (witness-intimidation and gang-assault) dropped, but failed to convince state Supreme Court Justice Rena Uviller.
The case is now adjourned until January 3, when the prosecution expects to have results of DNA tests on blood found on Remy Ma's clothes, reports the AP.
Remy Ma is accused of shooting 23-year-old Makeda Barnes-Joseph over a $2,000 debt. The shooting occurred after the rapper reportedly left a birthday party, in which she complained that $2,000 was missing from her purse. She then accused Barnes-Joseph of taking the money, got into her car, pulled a .45-caliber pistol and told her to empty her purse. This is when a struggle ensued, resulting in Barnes-Joseph being shot twice in the abdomen.
