Rapper Mos Def is going indie again.
Just how he got started in the 90s with Rawkus, the rapper is working on a new indie album on Downtown Recordings, his first new album since 2006's True Magic, released through Geffen, which failed commercially.
Reuters reports that Mos will be working with Kanye West on tracks for the as-yet-untitled record. His most recent collaboration with West were on the track, "Drunk and Hot Girls," from Graduation.
Downtown label head Josh Deutsc says that they have no plans to reissue True Magic. The set was pushed back numerous times by Geffen and when it eventually dropped in December 2006, it sold just 86,000 copies.
In addition to the music, Mos Def is continuing his work in Hollywood. According to Reuters, he has around eight movie roles pending through 2009, including an appearance in the Danny Glover-directed "Toussaint."
There is no word as to when his new album is expected to be released.
