Lil Jon's Crunk Rock Still Coming; 'Almost Done,' He Says

Lil Jon announced the new genre in 2004, but it wasn't until early 2006 that he announced the release of his long overdue album, Crunk Rock, after mending ties with longtime label TVT Records (see "Lil Jon Reconciles With TVT; Preps Crunk Rock").

It was originally slated for release in late 2006, but for some reason didn't receive a date. Here we are a year later and still no album. What's the deal?

In recently speaking to MTV, the producer who has made it his job to prove that crunk ain't dead said that the project is still in the works and will be ready for release sometime in 2008.

According to Jon, it's still not done yet, so that was the hold up.

"It's probably really like 65 percent, maybe 70 percent done," Jon explained to MTV. "I'm still tweaking and coming up with other ideas and other collaborations I want to get done. [But] I'm back and forth so much now from Atlanta to L.A.; I'm trying to get more of the rap tracks down. Half of the album is going to be fusion rap and rock stuff, and half of it is going to be the stuff they normally know me from."

The reason for his back and forth to L.A. is his cartoon, "A-Town," which he originally told us earlier this year would be released on Comedy Central (see "Lil Jon Developing Cartoon With Comedy Central"), but now is most likely gonna air on Will Ferrell's FunnyorDie.com video Web site.

The cartoon will be a comedy focusing on the rapper, his family and their life in his hometown of Atlanta. "It's a hilarious cartoon, I think everybody's gonna love it," Lil Jon told BallerStatus.com back in March. "Everybody thinks I'm gonna be the craziest character, but my family is crazier than I am."

Jon has not stopped producing either. He just finished a track for Pitbull's forthcoming The Boatlift, and he is working with BME acts -- Lil Scrappy, E-40 and a new artist, Korean pop singer Min.
