Erick Sermon Upset EMPD Wasn't Included In VH1's Hip-Hop Honors

With the airing of the fourth annual VH1 Hip Hop Honors Monday night (October 8), some people are questioning how nominees are being chosen for induction.

This year's show seems to have extra hype around it with a higher caliber of celebrities to support -- with the honorees including Missy Elliot, Snoop Dogg, A Tribe Called Quest and Whodini. But a legend recently asked us, where's EPMD?

Erick Sermon -- one half of the legendary duo alongside Parish Smith -- was disappointed that EMPD have yet to be mentioned in Hip-Hop Honor's fourth year running. "We was kinda upset," Erick told New York-based Kitty Radio. "We was gonna boycott because we wasn't nominated to be inducted for the Hip-Hop Honors yet."

Despite being snubbed, Sermon attended the show anyway, where he was asked the same question by his peers, "Everyone was like, 'When they doing ya'll?'" However, he isn't bitter about it, he maintains optimism for future opportunities and admits that there is plenty of time to be honored and hopes to be apart of the VH1's Hip-Hop Honors sooner than later.

"I guess it's gonna be around for a while because it was successful again," the rapper said. "I think a lot more stars showed up then the previous ones. I wasn't at the previous ones, but it seemed like every star in America was in the building."

EMPD have been bonafide hip-hop stars since the late 80s, even with a dithering personal relationship between them. With classic hits like "Strictly Business" and "You're A Customer," the duo effortlessly transitioned sounds of the Golden era into the early 90s -- surrounded by iconic groups like De La Soul and A Tribe Called Quest.

Besides being part of an explosive rap duo, Sermon has made huge contributions in terms of music production over the last decade, accredited for his work on over 40 albums, working with the likes of En Vogue, Busta Rhymes, Blackstreet and Shaquille O'Neal.

In related news, Erick Sermon is in the process of working on a new album, and confirmed that it will include a collaboration with legendary Blondie front woman, Deborah Harry.

"She was in New York City, when she was back and forth doing her European tour. We're just going over the things now, as far as the politics and labels go, but she's was mad happy. It should be soon" explained Sermon.

The rapper/producer is calling his recent work the "best work I've done," further explaining that the hip-hop climate is changing and people are yearning for something different.
