50 Cent was named Songwriter of the Year at ASCAP's 23rd Pop Music Awards ceremony on Monday (May 22), held in Los Angeles, California.
The rapper took home the honors for his contributions to five hit singles last year, including "Candy Shop," "Disco Inferno," "Hate It Or Love it," "How We Do" and "Just A Lil Bit."
It was the second time that 50 Cent has received the honor, and during his acceptance speech -- via a video message -- 50 stated that the songwriting community is what drives him to reach the "next level."
"I want to tell you that I use you for energy," said 50 Cent. "I listen to the material that you create...it helps me move to the next level; it inspires me to write even more exciting material."
50 lead the pack with five awards; Jermaine Dupri and Sean "The Pen" Garrett both took home four; Ciara and Scott Storch received three a piece; and Dr. Dre, Beyonce, Mike Elizondo, Alicia Keys, Missy Elliot, Ludacris, Nelly and the Game left with two each.
