Smack White Entertainment, the company behind the highly successful Smack DVD Magazine, have teamed up with Koch -- who they inked a deal with last year to distribute their releases -- to release S.M.A.C.K. The Album: Volume 1.
Smack, which stands for Streets, Music, Arts, Culture & Knowledge, is among one of the top ranked DVD magazines on the market, moving more than 750,000 copies since its birth with no major label support.
S.M.A.C.K. The Album will be a 2-disc CD/DVD combo. The music portion will feature tracks from DMX, B.G., PNC, Juvenile, Mddl Fngz and Bun B, a reunion track with Redman, Eric Sermon & Keith Murray, Maino and Bleu DaVinci, among others.
The DVD portion will include exclusive videos, performances and controversial interviews from Paul Wall, Mike Jones, E-40, Murder Inc. and Funkmaster Flex with an exclusive video for every artist featured on the audio CD.
After three years and ten volumes, Smack has single handedly taken the hip-hop DVD magazine format to what it is today, led by CEO and Director Troy "Smack" Mitchell, who has taken his brand beyond that of a street DVD.
"We are enthusiastic about the opportunity we have to bring our title to a national market," Mitchell said last year when he inked the deal with Koch. "It's more than just a DVD, it's a movement. Plain and simple, we are the streets."
According to Mitchell, a Smack print magazine and a documentary video series is also currently in the works.
S.M.A.C.K. The Album: Volume 1 is slated for release May 23.
