As DVD mags such as "Smack" and "All Access" bubble in the streets, they lead the way for others to follow and fill the void of what's not being covered in other parts of the country -- especially the West Coast. Tha Block DVD Magazine is the latest to launch.
Although there is stiff competition in DVD Mag market, Flawless, founder of Tha Block, feels that their product has what the others lack -- quality.
"Not knocking any other magazine out there, but as far as clarity and audio-wise, we are killing everybody out there," Flawless told BallerStatus.com. "How we differ is I feel we do it a little bit more professional. The others I've seen are really grimy, which is not bad, but I'm a perfectionist. And I need everything to be up to my standards."
Based out of Los Angeles, Tha Block DVD Magazine is a bi-monthly DVD mag that features exclusive interviews, concert footage, music videos and more. The DVD's second issue was recently released, boasting exclusive interviews with Crooked I, Lil Eazy, Cali Untouchable DJ Warrior, DJ Muggs and Sly Boogy among others.
The DVD mag launched early this year with its debut issue, which featured renowned West Coast veteran, Jayo Felony, famed tattoo artist, Mister Cartoon and Stat Quo among others.
What started out as a documentary project, quickly turned into a DVD magazine after Flawless realized the footage he had been filming was more time sensitive than he thought.
"I started out making a documentary about hip-hop and how to come up in the game," Flawless explained. "After speaking to the artists and getting all this stuff on film, there was too much information that needed to be known...like now -- not next year or in six months, but now. So, that's when I decided to launch [Tha Block]."
In addition to dropping their second issue, Tha Block are also planning to release a mixtape series every other month between the releases of the DVD. The first mixtape is currently in the works with West Coast mixtape king, DJ Warrior, and is expected to drop soon.
