Los Angeles native, Jimmy James Johnson, pleaded guilty on Wednesday (September 14) to punching Dr. Dre at the 2004 Vibe Awards in Santa Monica, California.
Superior Court Judge Stephanie Sautner sentenced Johnson, 27, to a one year in county jail for the felony assault charge, a sentence which includes three years of probation. He is also ordered to stay away from Dr. Dre for three years, according to the Associated Press.
Dr. Dre was scheduled to receive a lifetime achievement award at the November 15 Vibe Awards ceremony, but before he was able to hit the stage, Johnson reportedly approached Dre for an autograph, then threw a punch at the producer, which led to an all-out brawl involving G-Unit (see "Brawl Breaks Out At The Vibe Awards; One Person Stabbed"). During the melee, Johnson was stabbed and suffered a collapsed lung.
G-Unit's Young Buck was later charged with the stabbing of Johnson and has since pleaded not guilty to an assault charge (see "Young Buck Pleads Not Guilty To Stabbing Charges"). He is currently free on bail and awaiting trial, which is scheduled to begin later this month.
