Repping Long Beach, California since the beginning of his career, it's only right he be recognized for what he's done for his city. Well, the city's Mayor Beverly O'Neall is honoring the rapper for his efforts and contributions to Long Beach by naming August 1-6 Warren G Week.

Warren not only helped in bringing global attention to the city, but has also actively participated in the development of the city's neighborhoods and expansion by donating money and lending his time in fundraising events.

Most recently, the rapper received an award from project Coordinator Leonard Adams for time and money donated to the Midnight Basketball League, which operates as an alternative to the trouble that can be found outside on the streets.

"I'm not just proud of Warren as his manager, I'm proud of Warren as his uncle," says Wron G. "He has stayed true to Long Beach and helped others to move to the next level in life. I thank the City of Long Beach for recognizing his humanitarian activities."

A course of events will take place during Warren G week including the kick-off ceremony on Monday where Mayor Beverly O'Neall will officially honor the rapper and present him with the key to the city.

The seven day week will also coincide with the opening of G's latest labor of love: the Willie McGinest Freedom School, named after New England Patriot Linebacker McGinest, who put up the seed money to start the school.

Freedom School is a summer enrichment program that was originated in the Civil Rights Era year 1964 in order to teach African-Americans to read and write so they could vote. It evolved into an educational improvement curriculum that stresses reading to help build a desire to learn that young people carry with them into the regular Fall school year.

He is also scheduled to perform on Saturday (August 6) at the Queen Mary for a benefit concert featuring not only himself, but up-and-coming local acts and some of G's friends, with all proceeds going to the the Willie McGinest Freedom School.

"The City of Long Beach owes Warren G a great amount of love and gratitude for his continued demonstration of care and concern for our youth," stated Pastor O. Leon Wood, Jr. "He shows his love through the giving of his time and resources. He is always there when needed."

In music, Warren G has been hard at work on his next album, which is titled In The Mid-Nite Hour and self-produced by G himself. A few days after Warren G Week in Long Beach, the rapper will begin promotion of the new album dropping September 27 on Hawino/Lightyear/WEA Records.
