It's been quite a long time since they had hip-hop fans feeling "Cool Like Dat." But after announcing that the hip-hop trio of Digable Planets were reuniting last year (see "Hip-Hop Trio Digable Planets Set To Reunite After 10 Years"), the group is making another big announcement.
The original members of Digable Planets will be touring the US and Canada throughout the summer. Kicking off in Ottawa, Canada on June 6, the group will hit 25 major cities with their final stop being in New Haven, Connecticut on July 9.
Formed in the early 90's, Digable Planets (Butterfly, Ladybug and Doodlebug) fused jazz and hip-hop better than any group before them or since. Their debut album Reachin' (A New Refutation of Time and Space) garnered them critical and commercial success. "Rebirth of Slick (Cool Like Dat)," their first single, hit the R&B Top Ten upon release. Later that year, they were rewarded a Grammy Award for Best Performance by a Duo or Group for their laid back vibe, which was more akin to a jazz show than a hip-hop concert.
They continued the jazz/rap fusion with Blowout Comb in 1994, branching out to embrace the old school sound as well. Despite their proven success the group split up as a result of creative differences, disappointing their numerous fans.
In September of 2004, the group announced that they will be reuniting after nearly 10 years. Although, there is no details regarding a reunion album or new material, the trio will be performing at the following select tour dates:
