With a new solo release on the horizon, Heltah Skeltah member Sean Price is preparing to rock the stage at New York's Joe's Pub on Wednesday (May 4th). Hosted by Queengodis, the show will also feature guests 3 Kings (EOW), Sharp, Quest & Haze with sound provided by J. Period and DJ Patrik "Mac" Larsson.
Sean Price's pending release, titled Monkey Barz, seems to indicate a resurgence of Duck Down Records, which rose to prominence in the early to mid-90's. A recent change of distributors -- from Koch to Navar -- has not affected the Duck Down timetable.
"I give Dru Ha (Duck Down CEO) the utmost respect," Buckshot told Sohh.com in a recent interview. "Here's a person who was able to do the impossible. Why? Because while we were suspended in mid-air, he was able to not only get us from a bad deal and get us a good deal, but get us on a new label. Right when the projects are about to come out, we not only got a new label, but no one even peeped it. We lost no timing."
The release of Sean Price's new album will mark the first in Duck Down's "triple-threat" campaign. Spearheaded by Sean Price's Monkey Barz, Duck Down is preparing the release of Reloaded by Tek & Steele a.k.a. Smif-N-Wessun, as well as Buckshot's collaborative effort with 9th Wonder of Little Brother, entitled Chemistry, due to hit stores June 2005.
Monkey Barz is slated for a May 31 drop.
Sean Price's performance at Joe's Pub starts at 11 p.m., located at 425 Lafayette Street.
