After announcing Tuesday (December 8) that Jay-Z, Damon Dash and Kareem "Biggs" Burke sold their 50% stake in Roc-A-Fella to Island Def Jam (see "Island Def Jam Buys Out Roc-A-Fella Records"), it seems that Jay-Z has taken over duties as President at Def Jam Records. As part of the deal, Jay will continue to run Roc-A-Fella. There's no word yet on whether or not he will be launching his rumored imprint, S. Carter Records, under the Def Jam umbrella. ...
Canadian rapper K-Os, who has broken into the U.S. market last year with Exit, has a lot to be happy about. His latest release, Joyful Rebellion, has been certified gold in his home country. And in addition, K-Os' album Joyful Rebellion and his current single "Crabbuckit" are the no. 1 most downloaded on the Hip Hop/Rap section of the Apple iTunes music store, beating out Black Eyed Peas, Eminem, Snoop Dogg and Jay-Z, among others. "Crabbuckit" is also the no. 3 most downloaded song overall in the entire store. ...

Wyclef Jean will be giving back even more this holiday season. The Haitian MC is set to host and perform at Yele Haiti: Dreams in Motion<, a private benefit concert and afterparty at New York's Glo on Thursday (December 9). Others scheduled to perform include Roberta Flack, Cassandra Wilson, Bilal, Ben Jelen and Nellie McKay. Proceeds from the event will benefit Jean's Yele Haiti, an organization dedicated to the rebuilding of the Fugees frontman's native Haiti. ...
