Hot Off The Presses: Bang Em Smurf Jailed, The Outlawz, Hip-Hop Summit & More

Former G-Unit member, Bang Em Smurf, was recently jailed and will be serving a term of 3 1/2 years from the incident that he claims sparked his feud with 50 Cent, according to Allhiphop.com. The rapper was jailed on gun charges from a shootout in the Queens native's neighborhood. He recently signed a deal with Koch Records for his own imprint GF Records and had plans to release an album later this year, but has been put on hold due to his imprisonment. ...

In June, the official Outlawz website reported that the group had inked a deal with Cash Money Records (see "Tha Outlawz Inks Deal With Cash Money Records"), but they may have jumped the gun when reporting the news. It seems that the initial deal was never finalized and they are now exploring other options. A spokesperson from Outlaw Recordz posted on their site, "The Outlawz were waiting two months for their advance and Cash Money never signed the contract. The Outlawz had to move on because they have a few other things on the table and they don't want to sit around and wait, because that's not normal business practices." ...

With his crew Terror Squad ruling the summer with their anthem "Lean Back," Fat Joe has announced the release date of November 16 for his next solo LP, Things Of That Nature. The latino rapper has been in Miami finishing up the project. ... T.I., whose beef with Lil' Flip (see "Lil' Flip Says His Relationship With T.I. Is 'Not Beef'") hasn't seemed to have calmed down, is apparently still in the process of recording his next album, Urban Legend, but has set a release date of December 7 for the album. ...

The Hip-Hop Summit Action Network has set the location of its next Hip-Hop Summit in St. Louis, home of Nelly and his St. Lunatics, who is expected to be on hand for the event. Others expected are Jadakiss, Reverend Run, Anthony Hamilton, Fonzworth Bentley and Remy Ma who are to rally the youth's participation in this year's election. ...

For seven years, Paramount's Kings Dominion theme park in Virginia and BET have teamed up to create the park's annual College Hip-Hop Fest. This year, the park decided to discontinue the event due to poor student turnout. There was no official attendence numbers for the event, but some say the cancelation was due to the shooting and violence that took place at past events. Last year, three people were shot, one being kiled. Two of the shootings occurred in the park's parking lot, another happened at night after the festival. Despite additional security, another homicide was committed at this year's festival. ...
