The Black Eyed Peas set fire to a recording studio early Wednesday morning (August 11) in Burbank, California, where they were recording tracks for their next album.

According to reports, the group had lit candles to set the mood while recording, but left to take a break. That's when the blaze started, which was around 3 a.m., and caused $550,000 in damages to Glenwood Place Studios.

"There were candles in the recording studio that caused a fire while taking a break," said Burbank Fire Marshal Dave Starr.

Glenwood Place has other recording studios that were not damaged in the blaze, officials said. The building was evacuated, but other sessions went on scheduled later that day.

No one was injured or present in the Black Eyed Peas' studio during the fire, but the group managed to salvage a tape of their recordings while other belongings such as guitars, drums, keyboards and other equipment was destroyed.

"Guitars, drums, drum-kits, keyboards, microphones, classic instruments that we've collected with our worldly travels are now destroyed," will.i.am of the group, told local TV station KABC.

The Black Eyed Peas are expected back in the studio recording as early as this week.
