Hustle Harder: Choose Your Words Carefully

This week was an interesting one to say the least. I put out a video titled "Inspired By The F#ckery" and in it I decided to show the public my criminal record to illustrate a point. Although my message and words were completely misunderstood by some (which prompted me to shoot a part two immediately) it taught me a valuable lesson. Choose your words carefully.

I'm realizing the more popular I become, the more my words are scrutinized. If you haven't noticed by now I speak from my heart and don't bite my tongue. I'm very outspoken and I've always been that way, so when I do speak on topics I don't hold any punches. In the first video, I was very vague because I wanted people to make their on conclusions based on my actions, but I realize now, in hindsight, that this wasn't the best method for such a powerful message. For starters many people didn't know who I was addressing in the video (which I thought was obvious) and thought I was taking shots at Rick Ross. I wasn't. He was just the person who inspired the thought. Secondly, many people thought I was glorifying my past criminal record. That didn't make too much sense to me either, but that's how some people perceived it. The last thing, however, really bugged me out. Many people DIDN'T understand my motives behind the video. Honestly, I thought my message was very accurate, but I was wrong. I realized at that moment I will always have to be very specific with the public from now on.

Being in the public eye is difficult. Many times you may find yourself in situations where you need to speak on serious issues. Because you are a public figure people will analyze whatever you say and interrupt it as they see fit. This can be positive or negative, depending on the listeners. You have to make sure that you choose your words very carefully. Just because you understand something doesn't mean everyone else will, so you have to keep that in mind. Something I would suggest is to be very straight forward with your audience. Don't dance around topics or be "too" clever or ambiguous because you may lose some people. Also I would make sure to answer any questions in your statements that people may have so there is no confusion. By doing this, you leave little room for debate or misinterpretation. Finally, think before you speak. Although I knew what I "meant" to say, I will be the first to admit that I could have executed my delivery much better. Be sure that you really think about your words and how you want to convey your message before you put it out there. Remember, not everyone thinks exactly like you do, so make it as simple as possible so anyone can understand it.

All in all the majority of people understood what I was trying to say. Ignorance is never something that should be glorified and that's what I meant to say. Maybe I should have just said that though right, haha? Much love.
