By: Sammy Newman-Beck

While most kids his age are focused on college finals and girls, 20-year-old Supastar LT is focused on music, hence the name of his forthcoming mixtape The People's Focus. While Supastar LT just recently added the self-proclaimed "Supastar" status to his name (his former name was solely LT), he has garnered some superstar backing of his own. With world renowned DJ Clinton Sparks as his primary DJ and artists like Cassidy, Ne-Yo, Rick Ross and Freeway supporting his movement, LT is quietly growing into the next big "Supastar."

With his upcoming mixtape, The People's Focus set to drop shortly and his feature album, Young America Online, to follow, LT is ready to take over the scene. Since his explosive tracks like the Freeway featured "Philly to Beantown" is receiving massive approval, LT must be doing something right. "I would get on a plane to go to Miami," states LT when asked about his work ethic, "I've been on Ocean Drive in Miami by myself, shaking people's hands. I've been at music conferences by myself shaking people's hands." It is a work ethic like this that has started to separate LT from his local competition.

While Boston, which is where LT has grown into his Supastar status, is not known as a hip-hop hotspot, it has helped to mold and form LT's music into what it has become today. "I would step out of the house and I would see things going to school on the train," explains the raspy voiced rapper, "I would see things in downtown, I would see things on the corner. My job is to bring Boston to the rest of the world. I believe in bringing my town wherever I go."

Though many rappers may rhyme about their horrid pasts or their stories of selling drugs, LT focuses on his own realties. Growing up in different hoods throughout the country has provided LT with different experiences, all of which have affected his music career. "In any ghetto," LT states, "it's the same problems all over the place. Every hood I went to was similar; I fell right into the mix of things."

Whether it's the issues of trust with different record labels, witnessing drug deals on the corner, or dealing with the incarceration of his father, LT has had his own tough realities. But, it is these realities that have played a major part in the music he puts out. "Everyday there's certain events in life and I put everything I went through into my music. As far as my father going to jail, as far as coming from the streets and going to college, as far as me going through situations with record labels -- it's all the truth."

These everyday struggles have helped the young, fly and flashy LT create an enormous buzz around the Boston and New England area. After starting as a young inexperienced rapper back in Texas, LT was able to create enough buzz in Boston to launch his first ever mixtape at the age of 14. But it wasn't until LT met a man by the name of DJ Chubby Chubb that he knew this music business was going to be his future. "I gave a single called 'Cut My Check' to Chubby Chubb," explains LT. "When I gave him that joint, he started spinning it on the radio. So the radio picked up on the record and it was at that point that I sat down and decided I had to really focus on my music and what I was saying." LT focused, and then went on to release numerous mixtapes and started creating a buzz around Boston. With the release of The Birth of LT and the creation of his own music company 21rst Century Music, LT started to see himself receiving recognition. Creating street bangers like "Party and Bullsh**" and the Cassidy featured "Don't Try" LT has continued to bring his buzz into 2008.

LT's determination and confident swagger is what defines him as an artist. Since moving to Boston at age 9, LT's dreams have slowly been coming to fruition. While selling over 7,000 copies of his Birth of LT mixtape, the young rapper has also ventured into the entertainment industry with his upcoming role in the Philadelphia based film "Expendable," featuring stars like Sunday Carter, Omillio Sparks, Oskino, Michael Blackson, and Gillie Da Kid. He obviously on the right track; he currently balances travels to places like Miami and Las Vegas, while logging numerous hours in the studio and being a part-time student at one of the toughest New England colleges in Brandeis University. "If I'm sitting back, lamping around waiting for someone else to do it, chances are it won't get done," states LT in a disgusted-at-the question type tone, "You'll understand if you really want a career and you really want to be in the mix of things."

A Day In The Life Of Superstar LT

At only-20 years-old, most kids would be satisfied with his accomplishments and list of high caliber associates. LT, however, is far from it. As he readies his releases of his next mixtape and album, he is also preparing his first official single which will feature R&B singer Ray J. Moving around from state-to-state has provided LT with a style of music that separates him from his local counterparts and while Boston has not been home to many widely known artists, LT has no problem putting the "Bean" back on the map. "I speak the truth and I tell what I go through," concludes LT when discussing why people should listen to him, "I don't give you nobody else's story, I don't tell you what sounds good ... I just give you reality."

Scouting Report

Supastar LT is ready for his name. At such a young age, he as already conquered many of the major obstacles artists face. He has America Online as a financial backer, so money is not a problem. DJ Clinton Sparks is also fully behind him, so credibility is also not a problem. With his lists of features so far including Rick Ross, Cassidy, Ne-Yo, Ray-J, Freeway and Omillio Sparks, LT's music is being listened to on the major level.

His strengths on the mic include is varied style and wordplay. Also, has an aggressive voice, which adds to his usually tantalizing hooks.

For him to really blow up, he must continue to work on the club-banger type music, which he seems to have no problem doing. While he is young, it will be very interesting to watch LT over the next three years and see where he ends up ... don't be surprised if on your TV and radio is the answer.
