It's finally starting to get light early here in New York City. The weather is beginning to turn around and that can only mean one thing, the summer is coming. That also means you going to need that new AC. I'm on the Staten Island ferry right now, from Manhattan to SI. While looking at the skyline, I can't help but be inspired to write. The combination of Ms. Liberty watching over me, the waves splashing that dirty NYC dro, and the sun setting, creating a fire in the sky -- I have no choice but plot my next move.
What's new Ballerstatus!? It's been a while since I blogged here, so I have to update you on what I been up to in the past few months. Where do I begin? First off, the new tape is in the works. I've been in the green house with a bunch of new producers, stacking some bangers for my third solo release. Along with that, I was able to shoot my first official music video. The video is for one of my songs called "Rae Told Me" produced by Hasan Insane.
AC - "Rae Told Me"
For those that haven't heard the song, it is basically a record paying tribute to Raekwon and my borough. I always been a fan of Rae, so when Hasan sent me the beat with the NAS cuts in it, I knew I could make the concept work. My man Rain, added some familiar scratches, and it really added that element hip-hop seems to be missing these days.
The idea to shoot the video came from all the positive feedback on the record. I hit up my friend/next biggest director in the game Steven Tapia (StevenTapia.com) and said, let's go gorilla and just shoot in different areas of Staten. I just wanted to shoot without planning. Honestly, I was amazed at the story Steven built on the random shots we took. The way the chops in the video go along with the sample took me back to a time where music was meaningful. He really is an artist of sorts. I don't want to hype it any more, just check it out and be sure to send your feedback my way.
The Making of 'Rae Told Me'
I get a lot of emails asking about the Ballerstatus.com trials and tribulations blog. I'm gonna try to post here a lot more often, so stay tuned cause you know I'm always moving around.
