Mumbo Jumbo: Blame Oliver North? Why Jay Wasn't At The Funeral & More

Published: Friday - December 14, 2007
Words by Joe King

So, we're supposed to be getting a Nor'easter on the East Coast this weekend. I'm fully equipped for staying in and chillin'. I've got video games, food, alcohol, blunts and tons of porn. Yeah, what can I say my girl is out of town and it keeps me from cheating. Ha!

So what's floating around in the streets? Hopefully the Papoose video clip! I'd like to see that footage, if it even exists!

LOTS OF ROC RUMORS IN THE POT!

Jay-Z is not bringing Roc-A-Fella over to Sony. The rumor was that a whole bunch of Def Jam employees were getting the axe due to the move, but don't slit your wrists yet folks. Looks like it's going to be a Merry Christmas or Happy Kwanzaa for your guys afterall. Mind you, I didn't say Happy Channukah since those guys are the ones giving out the pink slips. Lol, Yeah I said it, Steve Rifkin. Anyway, the Roc and Jay-Z aren't going anywhere.

BEANS is not eating BEANS for dinner!

There was a rumor that Beanie Sigel was broke and had to auction off his cars. This is no where near true. Beans is still rollin' in the dough and just dropped his latest album, The Solution. Good stocking stuffer kids. Cop that.

PIMP C WAS LOVED AND NO JAY-Z DIDN'T FORGET

Thousands of people came out for Pimp C's funeral (Read more) in his Texas hometown. Of course most of the Southern boys were there paying their respects, but the big dog Jay-Z was missing from the crowd. We all know that Jay basically put UGK on the map when he co-signed them and featured them on his 2004 hit, "Big Pimpin'". Jay-Z has always expressed loved for UGK, so why wasn't he there? Well, Jay is still in Paris on business, but that doesn't mean he doesn't care. For those of you that don't know, Jay paid for ALL of Pimp C's legal fees went he went away the last time, so give him a break. He can't be everywhere at once.

THEIR MOBB IS STILL DEEP

Prodigy is said to be releasing his third solo album through KOCH called H.N.I.C. 2. He's been bloggin' on HNIC2.com. Shouts to our writer Speed for the info. She'll be giving us an exclusive Prodigy interview shortly. Oh and Mobb Deep will release an album in 2008, but guess what no BIG NOYD!!! For those of you that forgot, Noyd dissed Mobb Deep when they signed to G-Unit. Those matching G-Unit tattoos must've been the last straw for Noyd, LOL.

RIP to the number one WIFE BEATER of all time!

Just joking, but not really. R.I.P. to Ike Turner, Tina Turner's late ex-husband. He died at the age of 76 and it looks like it was from naturally causes. Although Ike was thought of as one of the pioneers of Rock N Roll, his history of violence made his achievements minuscule and un-important and the public mostly focused on that. Rolling Stones guitarist, Keith Richards, claimed to have seen Ike pistol-whip another person. He said this to Vanity Fair in 1993: "Ike acted like a God damned pimp." LOL. Do pimps go to heaven?

Deciphering Jay-Z

So Jay really came back to me on "Blue Magic." The rest of the album is good, but "Blue Magic" is that sh--. See why I say this is because I remember the days when I could listen to a Jay song over and over and pick up new things, whether it be historic accounts or clever metaphors that were tough to make sense of, but then once you did figure it out a sense of accomplishment came over you. It was like playing a video game and getting past the level lord at the end to get to the next level. Anyway, I used to seriously google sh-- that Jay would spit just because I didn't know what he was referring to and I knew once I did understand, the verse would mean something completely different. Here's a line from "Blue Magic" I've done the grunt work of researching for you. Check it out:

"Blue Magic"- Jay-Z: "Blame Reagan for turning me into a monster, Blame Oliver North and Iran-Contra."

Now, let me break this down for you. President Reagan was in office during '81 - '89. Prime adulthood time for Jigga. Anyway, during the late 80s a major political scandal was making media headlines everywhere. The Iran-Contra Affair was a result of prior actions taken by the Reagan administration where branch executives were selling weapons to our enemy, Iran. Then they used the profits to carry on subsidy to the Contras, a armed guerilla rebel group in Nicaragua that was accused of crimes against humanity. A big MESS as usual! Anyway, Oliver North was one of the main names involved in the Iran-Contra Conflict. He looks like G.W. to me. How crazy is it that people from world's apart get involved with each other and don't even realize it. Iran and Nicaragua!? How strange?! But then again, the US doesn't get involved in anything that doesn't have value to us -- Oil, Coffee, DRUGS! Lol, I think that has value?

Well, Jay-Z is obviously a well, self-educated man. He always did manage to add some historic connotation to keep his raps interesting, at the same time teaching us. I probably wouldn't have done the in-depth research that I did today if I didn't hear Jay make a reference to Oliver North and the Iran-Contra Conflict. So, thanks Jay! Keep a n---- smart! And they say blacks don't like to read! The nerve! Haha.

Random fact: The term Contra is short for the Spanish term contrarevolucionario, in English "counter-revolutionaries."

Moving on from battles. Here's this maniac Kimbo Slice kickin some ass. Watch this, he's the dark skinned on asking to be punched in the face. LOL, I guess it don't hurt that much?

Feel free to bicker amongst each other and if you'd like to send me a question, comment, death threat or any sort of sexual proposals (no-homo please), get at me: joekingly@gmail.com.
