Greetings people. Usually it's only dudes like Twista who bring the hookups and exclusives to the pages of BallerStatus -- you know, dudes who actually do things with their lives and have genuine flossing capabilities.
But today I come bearing gifts: I just got word from the good folks at AmieStreet.com that they are dropping 300 cents on all of you clowns so you can download some free music. That's equivalent to $3 or roughly €2.16, for those who like to use a slightly wacky form of currency. To redeem this value, just sign up on the site and enter "ballerstatus" for the promotional code.
Now, I know what that you're probably thinking, "Gritz, three bones is nothing, you are a stingy piece of shit." Or alternatively, "Gritz, you are not really giving us free music, Amie Street is." To that I say: A) $3 on Amie Street is like spending British sterling on more expensive streets like "iTunes," and B) Don't shoot the messenger.
Here's the deal: AmieStreet has an alternative distribution model where all songs start out FREE and then the price moves towards a ceiling of $.0.98 as the demand rises. (The track are also DRM-free.) So you can cop a lot and even get some free jams as well. Granted, not all the major names are on there, but there's some great stuff and new artists are signing on by the day. A few months ago I got some dope exclusives from The Game that are worth checking, but at this point are gonna break the bank. Lately, the hyphy movement has taken the site by storm, with names like Andre Nickatina, E-40, Mac Dre, Messy Marv, Too $hort, and Zion I popping up. Also in recently: Public Enemy, J Dilla, and Nappy Roots. If all else fails, I ran into some Ella Fitzgerald for getting it cracking in the crib...
Anyway, I'd be interested to know what you fools find, so holler in the comments if you come across anything good. See who can put together the best playlist with $3... it'll be like the hip-hop "Ready, Steady, Cook."
