So last week, The Fire put us up on a possible feud amongst the "Carters" with a breakdown of Jay's verse on T.I.'s "Watch What You Say To Me." Personally, I'm sort of tired of these anonymous diss tracks that show up on everyone's records and require the full efforts of hip-hop cryptologists (i.e. blogs and message boards) to expose or debunk. I prefer tracks like "Cuuurrrtttiiisssss" -- at least they're honest!
At any rate, you knew if Weezy was going fire back at Jay it wouldn't take long. So let's peep Exhibit A: Lil Wayne's verse on Freekey Zekey's "Beat Without Bass."
Now fortunately for you fools, my informant T.Wise tracked down a version of the song that doesn't require listening to the Freekey Zekey part, which is awful. (As The Wise pointed out, it's almost mind-boggling that this is what Zekey has been preparing us for with all of his talk about coming home and taking over the game.) Anyways, the line that has Jay's name written all over it is as follows:
You old ass rappers better stay on tour You're like 44, I got a 44, I'm 24 I could murk you and come home when I'm 44
If anyone should avoid queries about birth certificates, it's "Young" Wizzle, but c'est la vie. And besides that, maybe he's just talking about jean sizes -- after all, Jay is significantly larger than him. Either way, this alleged feud has seemed completely unnecessary to me from the start, but it will be interesting to see how it pans out.
As for the Nas part, it seems like more of a compliment/confession than a diss to me:
Okay, my leather so soft but don't think I ain't hard Bitch say, "Weezy make it rain," I say bitch I ain't God But I am God's son, but you know I ain't Nas See, he got a positive aim, and I aim nines
So what's popping, BallerStatus? Is this beef for real?!?!
